It’s my experience that people make up their own rules especially in the absence of rules. There is a vital key to effectively operating a successful business that has to do with the rules. I view rules in two parts there are the core values and beliefs and then there are your procedures to follow. I want to talk about the core rules. The rules to operate and live by. These are what we refer to as a Code of Honor.
Anybody that has been a Boy Scout can resonate with what I’m talking about here. These are your set of principles that everybody in the business nave to follow no matter what. They bind ordinary people together in a contextual way to form championship teams. There is never any question as to what is to be expected out of a fellow team member. These rules need to be particular to your company and need to be in a way that helps nurture a positive and results driven environment. They need to hold together and drive the team forward to the mission of the company.
Things like be on time by being early, clear up any broken agreements at the first opportunity. By adopting those kinds of principals everyone becomes more successful. An important component which is the hardest part of the process is the ability to “call it”. When the rules are broken the offender needs to be confronted on the issue and then it needs to be resolved. Otherwise covert hostilities are created. Covert hostility destroys teams and businesses.
When and how to use peer pressure as a motivator without creating resentment and unhealthy competition is an important skill. Some issues need to be dealt with in private and other times it needs to be a public motivation. The Code of Honor course is guaranteed to transform your team. With just a few simple steps and suggestions, you’ll find that every member of your team will quickly band together when the heat is on… as one unit… and will come through together, and be victorious as champions in every sense of the word.
